Discover the Emotions Series

This series of original watercolor paintings came out of curiosity, experimentation, and necessity. I was enjoying the process of growing my watercolor painting abilities but I need to paint from life and did not understand how artists created abstract art. I wanted to figure it out so I sat down with a blank sheet of watercolor paper, my palette, and my brushes. It had been a particularly rough day and I didn’t really understand what was going on in my head. Emotions were something that I never really understood. I painted what I was feeling and when I finished painting I wrote down “pain” next to it. I looked at it and didn’t like it, but as I walked away there was a little less pain in my head and I felt like I understood a little bit more of what this emotion meant. The next morning I looked at the painting again, and I felt a connection to it. Over the next few months I continued to explore and learn about my emotions in this way. The paintings that came out of this journey are this series, some light, some dark, but all me.
